Our otolaryngologists (Ear, Nose and Throat) doctors Lesley Soine, MD and James Frisk, MD specialize in the treatment of pediatric and adult ear disorders. They are trained in the medical and surgical treatment of hearing, ear infections, ear pain, and much more. Otolaryngologists are commonly referred to as ENT physicians. ENT physicians are trained in the medical and surgical management and treatment of patients with diseases and disorders of the ear, nose, throat (ENT), and related structures of the head and neck.

Ear Infection (Otitis Media)

Ear infection (Otitis Media) is an infection of the middle ear, and is most often a bacterial or viral infection. The inflammation and buildup of fluids causes the ear infection to be very painful.

Signs and symptoms of ear infections:

  • Ear pain, tugging at ear
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Behavior changes especially in children, i.e. crying, acting more irritable or loss of appetite
  • Difficulty hearing
  • Fever of 100 F or higher
  • Drainage from the ear
  • Headache

  • Vertigo: Feeling of motion or dizziness when a person is motionless. This is due to issues of the inner ear and can make walking   or standing difficult.
